Open™,
leading company in B.O.S.S. (Business and Operation
Support Systems) solutions development and implementation
for Telco and Utilities won the World Billing Award
for its implementation in Empresas Públicas
de Medellín (EPM), Medellín, Colombia.
The announcement was made last Wednesday during
IIR's Billing Systems 2005 show in London.
The EPM Billing implementation project prevailed
over other major projects due to its broad multi-service
convergence, integrating multiple service offerings
including Telco and utilities services.
Hugh Roberts, Chairman of the Awards Judging Panel
and Consultant Director for IIR's BSS, OSS and Revenue
Management Events, stated: "We were impressed
by almost every aspect of the EPM Billing Implementation.
The other finalists in this category were all very
strong contenders, so in winning this award Open™ has demonstrated a significant achievement that
we hope other service providers will be able to
learn from."
Upon a thorough evaluation process, EPM selected
the Open™ software as core component of their technology renewal
project, which integrated Open™'s
BSS solution to support telecommunications and public
utilities services packing and billing simultaneously
into a single convergent invoice.
The level of complexity of the EPM project represents
a world-class model of the billing software implementation
and has been rooted mainly in the need to integrate,
pack, and provide with the corresponding discounts
more than 120 products and services all in the billing
process, as well as replacing and consolidating
the management of more than 35 in-house proprietary
applications.
EPM, using the Open™ solution and implementation methodology, unifies
the output of multiple business units into a single
convergent invoice and covers billing for Telecommunications'
fixed telephony, CATV, Internet Services, as well
as the Public Utilities: Electricity, Gas, and Water.
The Open™ solution modules have been integrated with the Siebel
specialized CRM system and other in-house applications
developed by EPM to support the OSS of the multiple
services. The integration was carried out through
the Tibco's EAI. Further, the project has been required
to interface with ERP, JD Edwards, and Data Warehouse
applications of EPM.
