Open™, leading company in BOSS (Business
and Operation Support System) solution development
and implementation for telcos and utilities, announced
the launching, in the second quarter of this year,
of a work program for incorporating and implementing
the CMMI Model at their software development center
located in Colombia.
The purpose of this program, carried out by the
affiliate Open™, is to achieve in the
medium term a level 5 maturity as defined and promoted
by the Software Engineering Institute. In the shorter
term, the company will work for the accomplishment
of the level 3 maturity in order to obtain a valuation
in around 7 months.
CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is
an internationally renown model representing a software
industry specific framework for improving the software
development of technology companies meeting their
customers' expectations. The model is associated
with five maturity levels where the software firms
can fit according to the fulfillment of the software
industry practices related to 24 process areas,
as recommended by the Engineering Institute SEI.
For CMMI program preparation purposes, Open™ has provided in the first stage a team of engineers
to focus on the review and required adjustments
of the process areas defined for each level according
to the model: Requirements Management, Project Planning,
Project Monitoring and Control, Supplier Agreement
Management, Measurement and Analysis, Process and
Product Quality Assurance, Configuration Management,
Organizational Process Focus, and Organizational
Process Definition. Upon accomplishment of the preparation
program, Open™ expects to be subject to the SEI valuation program
during the first half of 2006.
Open™'s
CMMI preparation program performance has the advisory
of the Chilean consulting firm Procesix, CMMI expert,
focused and specialized on software and technology
companies of the Latin American region. Procesix
is simultaneously providing consultancy to six Colombian
companies, including Open™,
which were selected and invited by the Oficina Comercial
de la Presidencia de la Republica de Colombia (Colombian
President's trade office), Proexport, and SENA (National
learning service agency) -a Colombian teaching and
learning institution- to proactively participate
in a Colombian software industry competitiveness
and development program.
Carlos Mejia, General Manager of Open™,
responsible for the operation in Colombia, including
the Software Development Center, declared: "Pursuing
an optimal maturity level under the CMMI model,
is the accreditation of Open™'s
commitment to the improvement and maintenance of
the best software development and operation practices.
We understand the importance of a product that timely
responds to the market needs with an appropriate
quality. By adopting the CMMI practices implemented
through our ISO 9000 quality scheme, we seek our
improvement for the benefit of the companies that
have trusted our product and services."
